Rodelbaan is a steel family coaster, located in the Dutch park, De Waarbeek.

This is the main attraction in the park, mainly beacuse its historical value. The rodelbaan was build by De Waarbeek themeselves and supplied the parts from a Japanese company named ACA.

The coaster opened in 1930 and its the second oldest operting steel coaster in the world, with the only succesor in that record is MontaƱa Suiza at the Spanish amusment park, Parque de Atracciones Monte Igueldo which was build in 1928. The translation for the name in Englush is "Tobbogan Run", which is for the idea that the ride will be later based on is the Toboggan Run attraction, mild descengs and speed depending on the passengers weight.

Design[]

Technology[]

The carts on Rodelbaan can accomadate up to four people, altough in bad weather it is sometimes forbidden to use a cart with more than two people. Due to a danger of shifting, the ride is also closed during heavy rains. This has to do with the "skidbrake" breaking system of the attraction, which is hardly used on any other roller coaster. This braking system is not in the carts but in the end of the station. There, the brake bars press against a plate at the bottom of the trolley and pushes it up. The rest of the technolofy used on Rodelbaan is also unusaul for modren roller coaster, such as the funnel-shaped wheels that have a large diameter on the inside and flangers, a system that is used by the railway. Due to its limited speed and despite the open side of the carts, it is not neccesery for Rodelbaan to be stuck on brackets, and one person can even stand during the ride. In the meantime however, the sides have been filled with brackets and people cannot stand during the ride now.

Appearance[]

Rodelbaan has an irregular pentagon shaped layout that passes under the entrance bridge and runs around the building. The five runs have a height diffrence of exactly four meters. The track itself has diffrenet colors over the years. On each car of the front written in yellow letters the text: "Recration Park De Waarbeek Hengelo".
