Iron Rattler is a Rocky Mountain Coasters hybrid roller coaster located at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, Texas.[1] The coaster spends much of its course atop the cliffs surrounding the park and includes a long tunnel through a quarry wall after its mid-course brake run.
History[]
When Rattler opened in 1992, it was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world with a 166 foot (51 meter) first drop. The coaster's original plans never called for such a large first drop, but construction of Cedar Point's Mean Streak prompted the hasty design change. As a result, the ride had very rough transitions and many riders complained of rib or back pain. Over the four years following the ride's opening, it was reprofiled in some way each year. The end result was a 42 foot (13 meter) shorter drop.
In 2013, Rocky Mountain Coasters reprofiled the ride with new track and trains in a manner similar to that used on Texas Giant.[2]
