Green Lantern is a B&M stand-up coaster located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The roller coaster normally opened in 1997 at Kentucky Kingdom as Chang. As it opened, it stole from Mantis at Cedar Point (now Rougarou) the records of being the tallest, longest, and fastest of its kind. Chang also boasted the world's tallest vertical loop. It held these world records for only one year, as at Six Flags Magic Mountain, The Riddler's Revenge opened.

Design[]

The first section of Green Lantern is basically a mirrored version of Rougarou, a roller coaster at Cedar Point in Ohio. Leaving the station, the train starts by climbing the 155-foot-tall (47 m) chain lift hill on which the Green Lantern oath is played over loudspeakers along the steps. At the top, the train goes through a pre-drop before making a slightly-banked 180° turnaround. After this, the train goes down a 144 feet (44 m) drop into a 121.6-foot-tall (37.1 m) vertical loop. Out of the loop, the track rises to the right into a 103.8-foot-tall (31.6 m) [[diving loop], hugging the first drop of Superman Ultimate Flight. Riders then rise into a diving turnaround over the station, and the train enters a right-leaning 72-foot-tall (22 m) inclined loop. After a small hill, the train then rises to the left into the mid-course brake run. It then drops into a right corkscrew, turning right and weaving through the diving loop. The track then makes a ground-hugging left turn and enters a low, second right corkscrew. After a right turn the train makes a final, 180° left turn into the final brake run before returning to the station. Green Lantern is 4,155 feet (1,266 m) long, with a ride taking about 2 minutes to complete.

Chang[]

As mentioned earlier, Green Lantern used to be Chang at Kentucky Kingdom. As it opened in 1997, it was awarded for its height, length, speed, drop, and loop. The color scheme of Chang was yellow. It was relocated to Six Flags Great Adventure following Kentucky Kingdom not being a Six Flags park anymore as they ditched it. As it was brought to Six Flags Great Adventure, the park removed Great American Scream Machine for taking up too much space.

Theme[]

Green Lantern is themed to the DC Comics character, Green Lantern. The track is painted green, with the exception of the yellow vertical loop. The second corkscrew was originally the track section which was going to be yellow, but it was decided to switch the scheme to the first loop. The loop is yellow because Green Lantern's enemy is the yellow Parallax.

Trains[]

Green Lantern currently operates with two steel-and-fiberglass trains. Each train has seven cars with four seats in a single row, for a total of 28 riders. Riders are secured by an over-the-shoulder harness. Although Green Lantern is a stand-up roller coaster, there is a small bicycle seat on which riders can lean.
