Great Bear is a Bolliger & Mabillard inverted roller coaster located in The Hollow at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It was the first inverted coaster built in Pennsylvania.
General Information[]
Great Bear is painted purple and black and is located near Comet and Skyrush. The coaster features four inversions: a vertical loop, an Immelmann Loop, a zero-g roll, and a corkscrew. Because the coaster is located on a hill, the lift is only 90 feet yet drops riders 124 feet in a curved drop. The ride features a helix immeadiatley before the drop, swinging riders above the park. After dropping, riders enter a vertical loop, an Immelmann loop, and a zero-g roll. The ride continues over Comet Hollow before entering into the final inversion, a simple corkscrew. Riders are photographed by three on-ride cameras before coming to a complete stop on the brake run and returning to the station.
Trivia[]
- Great Bear's name comes from the constellation Ursa Major, also known as the "Great Bear" because it has seven thrill elements, just as Ursa Major has seven stars.
- During "Hersheypark in the Dark" Great Bear is dubbed Great Scare.
- For 2016 Season, Great Bears Shoulder Restraints Were Repainted Yellow
