History[]
Steinwasen is mentioned in the church registed of Kirchzarten as the brithplace of Simon Wiestler in 1618. In the mid-17th century, a simple homestead was build o the Steinwasen site. Due to its location on a pass road through the Black Forest, the farm gained importance in the 19th century when a post office and a tiny resturant were opened there.
The last owners, the Kreutz family, gave up the farm in 1970 and sold the site to the buildings contractor Adolf Braun, who build a wildlife park in his place. Mr. Braun recived support from recognized wild biologists in the planning of the implementation. The park was opened to the public in 1974 and supplemented in 1979 by a chair lift and summer tobbogan runs, one of tobbogans was dismantled in 1989.
After a new main building was build in 1996, the Spacerunner and Gletscherblitz opened two years later.
In the year 2000 the black forest cinema was build and a film production of the origin of the natural landscape of the black forest was made. In the following year, the longest bridge in the world was completed.
