De Valkenier is a Dutch amusment park,located in the municipality of Valkenburg.The park was founded by Jan Albert Otermans in 1934 under the name of "Ontspanningsoord Natuurbad Valkenburg"(English:Recreatioanl natural pool Valkenburg).
it is the oldest amusment park in the Benelux countries.Starting with a rowing pond with a playground and pool,the park added attractions and over the years became a pretty well known modren amusment park and even changed its name to the more wel known De Valkenier in 1975.
History[]
The park was founded in 1934 by Jan Albert Otermans and is known today as the oldest amusment park in the Benelux.It went other the name of Ontspanningsoord Natuurbad Valkenburg with its first attractiones being a rowing pool and a small playground.Soon a mixed gender pool was added.Otermans expanded the park with non-mechanical attractiones such asslides and playground equipments.After his death his childrens continued the park,added mechanised attractiones and even changed the name to De Valkenier.
Attraction tax[]
In 2004 the municiplaity of Valkenburg introduct a new attraction tax which would increase taxes for the park.After the tax was introduct,it was proposed to move the park to the Steinerbos attraction park in Stein,however the park did not moved from its current location.
Managment[]
The amusment park is a family buisness.Jan Albert Otermans was succeeded by his sons and two grandsons before the current managment.His great grandaughter,Nancy,took over the park in 2008.
