Bobbahn is a bobsled coaster located in the German theme park, Heide Park which designed and build by the manufacturer, Mack Rides and was opened in 1994 as "Schweizer Bobbahn"( Translated to English as "Swiss Bobsled"). It is currently the largest and longest bobsled coaster in the world.
History[]
After the Wildwasserbahn II was opened on a filled up mountain in 1990 to adapt to the terrain to the ride, the opportunity quickly opened up for further use of the mountain. In 1994 the bobsled was realized at the same level as the upper part of the Wilwasserbahn due to further earth movement. Since the mountain was created purely artifcialy, the planning was almost independent of the acutal site. The hall, which runs throught the railway as a part of a dark ride, was first built as a free-standing building and was later filled with sand.
Altough the ride pened as the fifth of its type in 1994, the subject matter and landscaping were still incompleted. At its opening, the ride was more like a construction site, with the tunnels and siding were under constructions. The landscaping was completed in 1995.
In 2002 and 2003 you could see an exhibition of wax figures of pops and rock stars from Madame Tussaud in London in an exhibition room above Bobbahn's station.
In 2014 the ride's name changed from Schweizer Bobbahn to Bobbahn, since the attraction became a part of the "Transylvania" themed area and the name suffix accordingly seemed inappropriate.
Ride[]
The 826 m long journey begins with a lift hill that pulls passengers to a height of 27 m. Then it goes through very tight helices and alot of curves, with two tunnels and as well, a block brake, until the final brake run. Aseoncd lift hill pulls riders back into the station.
